If you missed this conversation lets bring you up to speed! According to CNBC, The Walt Disney Company is reportedly in negotiations to purchase most of 21st Century Fox.

From what was reported most of the talks with Disney has been about acquiring most of the company assets.  Besides Fox’s news and sports programming among other assets. This would also include the cable network FX and National Geographics.

According to CNBC and Comicbook.com reports the deal would specifically include 20th Century Fox, 21 Century Fox’s movie studio. This would reunite Marvel’s X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other Marvel Characters back into the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe.

20th Century Fox currently has ownership of the following:
Fantastic 4       Deadpool   Wolverine
Silver Surfer    X-Men         Cable
to name a few
There is a shared ownership with Scarlet Witch and Quick Silver. This would bring the full character development back to Marvel.

Sony Pictures owns Spiderman, but as seen this past summer with the collaboration with MCU Team. We were given an amazing film Call Spider-Man Homecoming. Where Sony would get all the gross from the films take. But Marvel owned the rights to all the merchandising from Spider-Man.
In 2014 Spider-Man grossed over 1.3 Billion in merchandise sales, with the release of the 2017 film it has been estimated to reach over 3 Billion in sales. The increase is based on the additional impact with The Avengers appearances.

So what does that mean for the MCU if FOX should agree to this deal and allow Disney to purchase back these rights?  Not only can we see an MCU version of a reboot for Fantastic Four, but most would agree to allow that to wait after the dismal reboot attempt done in 2015. Which was given a 9% rating from Rotten Tomatoes and a 4.3/10 from IMDB.

Still was not able to overcome the horrific storytelling, CGI, and character development. A sequel was canceled soon after the release into theaters.
